The Last Kumite, the Last Battle – for the life of his daughter. David Yeung is the son of Bolo Yeung, who played the antagonist Chong Li in Bloodsport (1988), which was the main inspiration for The Last Kumite (2024). I understand that this was a Kickstarter-funded film that wanted to go back to the style of 80s martial arts films, but this was just plain bad. Okay, you can’t get the best actors, martial arts stars, but the writing/storytelling is so basic that it just feels like no effort was put into it. There’s nothing about it that even remotely looks like effort was put into it. It’s a paint-by-numbers version of a martial arts film that would be okay if it was made on a budget by a studio, but this was crowdfunded and so little effort was put into it. It’s not unwatchable, but it’s also just plain bad, even for “this” type of film.
