Lynch is wrong
In the film The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, albeit an earlier model. Reference: Graham Norton and guests: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). TLDR: Redmayne gets it.
A more experienced actor could have done better
Unfortunately, the main characters are not on par with each other, which detracts from an otherwise spectacular and high-quality production. Lynch has no nuance, it’s just a high bar that Redmayne has set. A more believable counterpart/opponent character is needed to challenge The Jackal.
Overall, the story is a viable adaptation
The character development sort of works, although some things are left open in the main character narratives, but that’s to be desired. The locations, the varied interactions, Redmayne’s delivery of languages, and the character changes really add a special layer to the story arc. The deception barometer is constantly ticking in the background.
If he does, Se02 could be very promising
I’m looking forward to seeing how Se01 ends and how they maintain or improve on the quality in Se02. Hopefully Lynch feels less forced and gives a more nuanced performance to try to match Redmayne.
