A writer returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to discover that the town’s residents have been attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. He wants to move away from the sexier, more romanticized undead that have plagued pop culture for much of the last quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with a Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries. The film is set in the late ’70s, like the book. Mark’s Night Light is a Batman night light that uses a logo from the 1989 Batman. Correction: The story is set in 1975. The style of Mark’s Batman light is similar to the 1989 style, but the 1974 Batman toys show that the same style was in use in 1975. References Trog (1970). I loved the book when I read it in the 80s and was looking forward to this movie, but I was disappointed. I’m not a purist and don’t usually mind different interpretations of a fictional story, but the changes weren’t the worst part, that would have been the bland storytelling and the movie just felt rushed. There was no character development whatsoever, the acting was mediocre, although Alfre Woodard did stand out and I wish she had been shown more because for me she was the best part of the movie, although she was almost never, and I will never tire of saying this, nothing happened in the story to keep me interested. A little backstory on someone would have been nice, a real insight into the blossoming romance that was unfolding to help us really feel the pain of the main characters, anything other than the bland scenes we saw.
