He follows in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first portrayed him in the 1997 film Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 film sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the title character in the 2012 film Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and led Lionsgate to scrap the previously planned sequel Double Cross.
But the series waxes and wanes over a drawn-out 8-episode run that doesn’t justify its length
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes, and Isaiah Mustafa are brilliant in their supporting roles, but Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinsen command attention and even manage to steal the spotlight from Aldis Hodge’s stunning lead.
A must-watch, but don’t expect "Reacher" or "Sugar"
If only creator Ben Watkins had kept the script tighter and focused on the investigative elements rather than the main character’s personal struggles, this could have been a groundbreaking series.
