Scenario
Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet, which causes them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “The Skeleton Crew”; plus even more stars from a galaxy far, far away… The holographic circus that entertains Neal’s younger brothers is the same one followed by the Chewbacca family in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Edition (1978).
“Skeleton team” is a children’s series
And that’s good, because Star Wars was often kid-friendly, so why not have a Star Wars-themed children’s show? But this is not a children’s show designed for adults, like “Very Strange Affairs” or “Paper Girls”. It’s more like a show created specifically for ten-year-olds and no one else.
The Skeleton Crew starts in the suburbs
It’s a suburb of the Star Wars universe, but if you take away the robots and aliens, I might as well have grown up there. So for a moment or two it was an interesting twist. Unfortunately, these suburbs are populated by boring characters with uninteresting problems.
It will be better
And yes, everything is prepared for an important moment at the end of the first episode, but I was so bored by this first episode that halfway through I just started skipping ahead, and even the final act seemed – hmm. when will jude low appear? Maybe.
That’s all I saw
But it seems to me that if the first episode of the series is so crowded that I can’t get through it, then it probably won’t get much better in the near future. “One Hundred Years of Solitude”; — one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. See details in our December calendar!
