Scenario
A family of ranchers in Montana face off against others who encroach on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montanan accent and reverts to the SoCal speaking voice he normally uses.. Kevin Costner is a patriarch presiding over a dynastic ranch the size of several countries
His way of life is influenced by resort developers, tribal rights, and the authority of the state of Montana. Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “Giant,” he tries to hold on to the old ways. “Yellowstone”; is fast-paced with little introduction, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the wilderness, pausing at tribal rituals, cowboy customs, and political machinations. It’s a far-reaching undertaking that rests on the seams between law and justice, family and friendships.

Costner seems to fill the boots of his character naturally. He’s a world-weary man who’s seen too much and lied too often. He hears footsteps approaching, but he can only do his part out of habit and loyalty. While some of the action is a little confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting a real slice of life, a glimpse into another world.
I’m raising the grade to "9"
